Galway minor manager Jeff Lynskey accepted that his team got a lucky break when Cian Salmon's late winning goal against Kilkenny was allowed to stand.

The substitute appeared to be in the square when he finished the ball to the net, but the goal was given and the Tribesmen progressed to an All-Ireland final showdown with Tipperary on September 6.

"Look, in 1995 I was a minor myself in Thurles and there was a square ball that day that was given - 20 years later I got the rub of the green. That's it, that's life," Lynskey said.

"The players have shown great heart all year, they never give up and I think the experience of playing in Croke Park last week was a big help."

While convinced a square ball infringement had been committed, Kilkenny boss Pat Hoban wasn't making an issue of it.

"I think we all thought it was a square ball. They are the breaks you get or don't get," he said.
