Come the All-Ireland hurling and football finals in September, we'll be seeing and hearing plenty from Marty Morrissey, but did you know he has another All-Ireland coming up in a few weeks' time?

That All-Ireland pertains to the little-known sport of churn rolling, for which the popular RTE commentator and presenter is an ambassador!

The Tipperary Churn Rolling Association took out an advert in yesterday's Munster SHC semi-final match programme promoting their All-Ireland championship, which takes place in Tipperary town on Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18 as part of the It's a Long Way to Tipperary Festival.

Described as the Irish dairy sector's answer to the Pamplona bull run, the bizarre sport was conceived by workers at Tipperary Co-Op Tipperary Town in 1964. The workers tilted the churns at an angle so that just the edge of the base was in contact with the surface of the street. From there on it was just a matter of balance, skill and speed as competitors ran with the revolving churn along a 100-metre course.
