More than 1.5 million television viewers enjoyed Sunday's sensational All-Ireland final between Kilkenny and Tipperary.

The thrilling draw was watched on RTE1 by a peak audience of 1.1 million, while Sky Sports is believed to have attracted some 427,000 viewers in the UK for its first-ever broadcast of an All-Ireland final.

The average figure on RTE1 was 784,000 while for Sky Sports it was 101,000.

Sky presenter Rachel Wyse was delighted with the response to the match, which was moved from Sky Sports 3 to Sky Sports 1:

"It's lovely that people are tuning in and watching the show and as we've gone along, the viewing figures are rising and growing all the time which is hopefully a testament to what we're putting together week in, week out. It's a huge team effort," she told the Irish Independent.

"As soon as we saw the initial reaction to the first few games, we knew this was something that was going to catch on. People were fascinated by it and a lot of people have been coming up to us at the games."
