Sligo manager Niall Carew has admitted that he would like to stay on in the role, but added the ultimate decision was not down to him.

Carew has completed two years in charge of the Yeats County, but this year's campaign came to an end last Saturday when Clare defeated them in the qualifiers.

The highlight to Carew's term in charge was reaching the Connacht SFC final last year, although they suffered a heavy defeat to Mayo on that occasion.

Carew told the Sligo Champion that he believes that progress has been made since being appointed, but stressed that it was up to the clubs and county board at the end of the day.

"That is a decision for the clubs and county board, but I would like to be back. I think we have made some progress, obviously it is slower than I would like but they are a great bunch of lads to work with and I know they are very disappointed, bitterly disappointed with their second half performance and if they could play it again maybe they would do some things differently but that's how it is."
