County board to discuss manager's role

Sligo GAA chairman Joe Taaffe has revealed that the county board will discuss Pat Flanagan's role as manager after the county's interest in the All-Ireland JFC series ends.

Flanagan is in charge of the Sligo juniors who play Kerry in the All-Ireland semi final in two weeks time. The Offaly native can focus fully on the junior squad now that the seniors' campaign has come to an end for the year.

Taaffe stated to the Sligo Champion that no decision would be made on Flanagan's future until after the junior championship, but he indicated that they were happy with his first year in charge.

"I think Pat did a good job this year," said Taaffe. "He was late coming in and we were six to eight weeks behind as a result. We retained our Division 3 status and we could have won a few games which would have given us promotion."

He added: "Overall I think things are positive towards Pat and we will see what happens. Whatever happens with the junior team, we will all sit down afterwards and review things. I think most people would be happy for Pat to stay on. If he did, we would be starting on an even par with everyone else this time around."
