Edenderry club notes

February 27, 2017

Sad passing of Edenderry and Offaly Gael Liam Moran.

Gaels of Edenderry were saddened to learn of the passing of Liam Moran, an Edenderry & Offaly legend.  An Edenderry GAA Hall of Fame recipient in 2012, the former net minder played 26 times for his County between 1954 & 1958, including 8 Championship appearances and 18 League appearances.

Liam played in Goal in Offaly's famous win over Louth in the first ever O'Byrne Cup in 1954.  He put in a Man of the Match performance in the 0-10 to 1-05 victory.

He won two County Championships with Edenderry, 1953 & 1957.  He played in goal in 1953 and corner forward in 1957.

Liam hurled also and picked up a Junior medal in 1953 and an Intermediate medal in 1954 and hurled at Senior level in 1955 & 1956.

Liam took on committee roles when his playing days finished and was delighted to be recognised in 2012 and inducted into the Edenderry GAA Hall of Fame.  Of course he will always be remembered by generations in Edenderry owing to his friendless and helpfulness when he successfully ran his bicycle shop in O'Connell Square. Everyone in Edenderry GAA offer our heartfelt Condolences to Liam's wife Shirley, Sons Mark and Paul and Daughter Rhona, extended family and friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal.
