JUNIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Raheen Junior Footballers playing campaign is over for this year as they missed out on qualification for the Junior B Championship Semi Final by losing their final group match against Lusmagh in Geashill last Wednesday on a scoreline of 1-11 to 1-08. Lusmagh were first off the mark with the opening 5 points before Raheen got up and running with their first point on 12 mins but Lusmagh hit back within a minute with a goal. Raheen then added 3 points followed by their goal on 22 mins when Sean McFadden's quick free found Stephen Pierce whose high shot picked out Mark McNally who turned and shot low along the ground to the corner of the net. This cut the deficit to the minimum but 3 more points for Lusmagh left 4 in it at the break 1-08 to 1-04.Lusmagh missed 2 good goal chances right at the start of the second half before both sides added 3 points each by the 20th min still had 4 in it and this is how it remained until stoppage time when Sean McFadden put over a free for Raheen with the last kick of the game.

SENIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI FINAL

The entire playing campaign for Raheen GAA Club is over for this year as the Senior Footballers followed the Junior Footballers earlier in the week in exiting the Championship as they lost the Senior B Semi Final to Cappincur last Saturday afternoon in O'Connor Pk, Tullamore on a scoreline of 0-15 to 0-05. Raheen can have no complaints as they were beaten by a much fitter and hungrier team on the day. Raheen did open the scoring with a pointed free from Dylan Hyland inside the first 30 secs but that would be as good as the day got. Cappincur got off the mark with a point from Barry Mooney on 4 mins and added 2 more before Raheen got their second from John Crombie on 10 mins. By the final min it was not looking too bad as Cappincur had added just 2 more points to Raheen's 1 but in stoppage time Cappincur's superiority paid off with them getting 2 more points to lead at the break 0-07 to 0-03. Raheen's Wing back Chris Floody got the first point of the second half but Cappincur replied immediately with one of their own. Richie Reynolds put over the next point for Raheen midway through the half to leave just 3 in it and the game still in the balance but this proved to Raheen's final score as Cappincur's dominance shone through with them hitting over the final 7 points to wrap it up. After the game Raheen Manager Padraig Farrell announced that he would be stepping down from the position and the club would like to thank Padraig for all his hard work over the last 3 successful years which saw us capture the Intermediate Football Championship and Div 2 Football League titles along with reaching the Senior B Football Championship Semi Finals both years.
