Heavey in confident mood

Skryne's Ian Davis with Ciaran Heavey of Rhode during the Leinster Club SFc semi final at Pairc Tailteann.

Rhode defender Ciaran Heavey believes that they have improved with every game in the Leinster club SFC.

Having not set the world alight in the county championship, Rhode have certainly impressed in the club championship since then.

Wins over Louth champions St Pat's, Navan O'Mahonys of Meath and Kildare's Moorefield have earned them a final spot against St Vincent's.

"We have really hit the ground running since the county final," Heavey told the Midland Tribune. "We were under a bit of pressure within the county to reclaim the Dowling but I think the Leinster championship really suits us and our game. We weren't under any pressure in any of our games. It really suits our style of football.

"It is a pressure we bring on ourselves. We have such a good tradition. It is not that we always expect to win the Dowling Cup but we are one of the favourites every year. In Offaly, we are nearly expected to win every game comfortably. When you get out of the county, nearly every team you are playing  is at the same level as yourself. It is the best teams in the province. There is no huge pressure on you. You are up against the best in the province and you can express yourself a bit more then."
