Rhode GAA Notes

October 13, 2014

Rhode Senior footballers collected their 26th title on Sunday, they had a 0-13 to 1-07 win over great ravels and neighbours Edenderry in O' Connor Park in ideal conditions.

Rhode started well but kicked some bad wides and led by 0-06 to 0-04. Rhode played much better in the second half and led by six points with a few minutes to go. A Mark Young goal left for a tight finish with Rhode prevailing by three points in the end. There were great scenes of jubilations when County Board Chairman Padraig Boland presented the cup to excellent Captain Pauric Sullivan. It was then onto the Court Hotel for refreshments and a splendid meal sponsored by the Court Hotel.  It was home to Rhode then for the traditional homecoming which was tremendous as ever with a huge crowd attending. Speeches at the homecoming were by Chairman James Murphy, Captain Pauric Sullivan and team manager Pat Daly who has become one of the select few to captain Rhode to win a senior title as a player and Manager. M.C on the night was Jody Gunning who as always did a splendid job and thanks is also expressed to our video man Vincent McEvoy who was there to video the homecoming which is available on the match video. The team also stopped off at Seam Maunsalls  pub in Tullamore and sincere thanks is expressed to Sean for his support of the Club and sponsorship down the years and for the refreshments served on the stop over. A great night's celebration took place n the Village and thanks is expressed to Colm Killeen for his great help and thanks also to the other publicans Tommy Doyle and Niall O' Toole. On Monday the players and management and Club officials visited the schools of the parish and were greeted with great enthusiasm by the children and the excellent teachers who do so much for the club. Thanks is also expressed to our newly appointed P.P Fr Greg Corcoran for his attendance at the homecoming and for his spiritual guidance to the team. Also to our Bus driver Tom Flynn for his great service this year and indeed over many years. On the visit to the schools on Monday the club provided refreshments for the kids which was which went down a treat with them. Last but not least a huge thanks to all our loyal supporters who again were our sixteen man team on Sunday and who never lets us down. Sunday was another great day in the History of the Club and we thank those who made the day it was especially our players who gave so much to the club they are tremendous ambassadors.
