Junior 'C' honours for Daingean

August 15, 2014
Daingean were crowned junior 'C' football champions last Saturday following a 1-12 to 2-6 victory over Lusmagh.

It was the north Offaly club's first championship silverware since they won the intermediate title in 2002. They laid the foundations for their victory in the first half when Sean Ferguson's goal helped them to a 1-7 to 1-2 interval lead.

But Lusmagh - better known for their hurling exploits - got themselves back in the game three minutes after the restart when Alan Kelly converted a penalty. They had the margin down to the minimum, 2-6 to 1-10, with eight minutes remaining, but they couldn't get any closer as a relieved Daingean closed out the game with late points Danny McEvoy and Jamie McCabe (free).
