EASTER RISING FIGHT NIGHT - THIS SATURDAY
The Easter Rising 'The Re-Match' delivered on its promise and lived up to the expectations set by original event one year ago. From early evening the crowds from Edenderry and beyond flowed into the venue. The atmosphere was building nicely and upstairs the boxers could hear the chatter of hundreds of expectant followers below. In the end Edenderry GAA ran out comfortable winners however each fight was so keenly contested that the runaway victory broadly wet unnoticed as the level of entertainment served up by all involved was fabulous. In a twist on last year, MC Michael Duignan used co-commentators John Aldridge and Adrian Brereton to great effect and the lads brought their unique insight to proceedings throughout the evening. In the end Willie Forde, Edenderry GAA Team Manager and Paul 'Ozzie' Cummins Team Captain accepted the Cup on behalf of Edenderry GAA and leaves the series level at 1 - 1!
Many thanks to all of the Boxer that gave their time for free and raised well needed funds in the process. Thanks to the Senior Players and Organising Committee (Willie Forde) and to Aidan Burke & Pat Cullen and their team for prepping and resetting the venue. It was a team effort with all committee members and good club supporters helping on the night. It was another successful night and proves that this club can achieve anything; when it sets its mind to it.
EDEN CLAIMS CONFIRMS SPONSORSHIP
At the Easter Rising Fight Night - Trevor Ryan of EDEN Claims renewed his sponsorship deal with Edenderry GAA Bord na nÓg. Willie Forde speaking on behalf of the club thanked Trevor for his generosity thus far and highlighted that the club was looking forward to collaborating with EDEN Claims once again in a mutually beneficial arrangement.

MINOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE
The EDEN CLAIMS Sponsored Edenderry Minor Football Team chalked up their first points of the season when they drew with St. Broughan's on a scoreine of 3-13 to 4-10 in Edenderry last Thursday. Edenderry were short a few of their County players but showed signs of great promise for periods of the game.

The JV Byrne Sponsored Senior Footballers were defeated mid-week against Ballycumber when many regulars were missing but bounced back with great win against Rhode on Easter Sunday.

Ballycumber 1-12
Edenderry 1-9

An under strength Edenderry side travelled to Ballycumber on Tuesday evening last and despite leading at half time they were defeated by three points.

The reds made a great start to the game with two points from Stuart Cullen giving them a 0-2 0-0 lead after eight minutes of play but Ballycumber responded and levelled the game after fourteen minutes. Stuart Cullen gave Edenderry the lead again but three points in four minutes for Ballycumber put the home side 0-5 0-3 with six minutes remaining in the first half.

Edenderry fought back and scores from Aaron McDonnell (2) and Stuart Cullen handed the advantage back to the reds at half time as they lead 0-6 0-5.

Ballycumber started the better of the sides in the second half and two points in the opening six minutes gave them a one point lead while Edenderry failed to register a score until the sixteenth minute, a '45 from captain Richie Dalton. Three minutes later Ballycumber had the ball in the Edenderry net and followed up with a point from the resulting kick out.

John Gorman reduced the deficit to three points when he converted a free for a foul on Stuart Cullen in the fifty first minute but Ballycumber increased their lead with three points on the trot to open up a six point lead. John 'Baby' Mason was introduced for Padraig Foy and it paid dividends as Mason pointed in the fifty sixth minute before being hauled down for a penalty in injury time which was duly converted by Aaron McDonnell.

The final score-line reading 1-12 1-9 in favour of the home side.

Team:
Brian Quinlan, Stephen Abbott, Sean Pender, Diarmaid Meleady, Daniel Nolan, Sean Marshall, Leslie Nolan, Richie Dalton(0-1), Derek Kelly, Johnny Hurst, Oran Lawton, Padraig Foy, Stuart Cullen(0-4), Aaron McDonnell(1-2), John Gorman(0-1).

Subs: John Mason(0-1) for Padraig Foy.

Rhode........3-12
Edenderry...4-10

After suffering two defeats in a row at the hands of Tullamore and Ballycumber, Edenderry senior footballers returned to winning ways after a one point win over Rhode on Easter Sunday.

The reds burst out of the traps with a flurry of scores in the opening fourteen minutes but as they took their foot off the pedal, the 2012 county champions clawed their way back into the game with seven unanswered points. Edenderry got the perfect start when Ciaran Hurley, Sean Moriarty and Sean Doyle knocked over three points in the first seven minutes and a superb goal from David Hanlon in the tenth minute stretched their lead to 1-3 to 0-0.

Two goals from centre forward Ciaran Hurley in the twelfth and fourteenth minute fired Edenderry into a 3-3 0-0 lead but the reds failed to score for the remainder of the half and allowed Rhode to regroup and find their feet. Find their feet they did and a Niall Darby free in the seventeenth minute was quickly followed up by three points in three minutes from corner forward Anton Sullivan.

Points from Darren Garry, Anton Sullivan and a Niall Darby free in final four minutes of the half left the half time score-line reading 3-3 0-7.

Edenderry made a promising start to the second half when Ciaran Hurley added his second point of the game before a superb move from Derek Kelly and Sean Moriarty resulted in a Sean Doyle goal for the reds. Niall Darby kicked his third free of the game a minute later but it was quickly cancelled out by a Daniel Nolan point the far end.

Some slack defending from Edenderry allowed Alan McNamee to find the back of the net in the forty third minute and while Edenderry responded with a Derek Kelly point a minute later, Glen O'Connell found the net for Rhode immediately afterwards. There was now just four points between the sides but good scores from Sean Doyle and Cian Lawton restored a six point lead for the reds.

Conor McNamee and Glen O'Connell pointed either side of a Sean Doyle score for Edenderry and two minutes into injury time Donal Hickey shot low and hard past Edenderry goalkeeper Brian Quinlan for his sides third goal of the game.

A Darren Garry point in the sixty third minute of the game left one between the sides but an excellent score from Sean Moriarty four minutes into added time gave Edenderry back their two point advantage. A late late point from Glen O'Connell free left one between the sides as referee David Walsh blew the final whistle.

Team:
Brian Quinlan, James Mackey, Sean Pender, Colm Byrne, Daniel Nolan(0-1), Sean Marshall, Diarmaid Meleady, Richie Dalton, David Hanlon(1-0), Sean Moriarty(0-2), Ciaran Hurley(2-2), Oran Lawton, Sean Doyle(1-3), Derek Kelly(0-1), Stuart Cullen.

Subs: Basil Malone for Sean Pender, Cian Lawton(0-1) for Stuart Cullen, Mark Young for Richie Dalton (BC).
