G.A.A CLUB NOTES

LOTTO
The numbers drawn in the Lotto draw which took place on Monday 14 April were 01 07 20 22. There was no Jackpot Winner of €6,200 and 2 Match 3 Winners (Mag & Ollie Rigney C/O Fergie Byrne; Mick Dunne C/O Martin Boland ) (€100 Each). Next week's draw will take place in Doyle's, Killeigh on Monday 28 April 2014.

DIVISION 2 FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Raheen Intermediate Footballers made it 5 wins out of 6 in the Div 2 League against Durrow last Friday evening in Geashill with an exhibition in goalscoring on a scoreline of 6-10 to 2-11. Raheen opened the scoring with a point straight from the throw in but just after the mid point of the half Durrow were pulling ahead having put over 5 points to another 1 for Raheen. Then in a 4 min spell starting with just over 10 mins left Raheen turned the half on it's head with a 3 goal salvo all coming from high balls sent in by Richie Reynolds, the first punched in by John Crombie, the second punched by Conor Dunne and the third tapped in by John Crombie. Durrow hit back with a goal of their own and both sides added another 2 points apiece and so at the break Raheen led by 3-04 to 1-07. The first 5 mins of the second half saw both sides increase their tally with 1-01 apiece. Durrow hit back with 2 points to leave just 1 in it before Raheen struck for goal no 5 on 18 mins when John Crombie returned the first half favour as he turned provider for Richie Reynolds to finish to the net and he added a point before Raheen completed their goal scoring rout in the 20 min as midfielder Mark Gorman made a run with ball through the middle into the square shirking a few tackles where he found space to shoot past the keeper into the net. With the goal scoring completed Raheen used the final 10 mins to bring their point scoring up to a respectable level as they raised the white flag 4 times to just 1 for Durrow and so Raheen ran out 11 point winners.

DIVISION 3 HURLING LEAGUE
Raheen Hurlers battled all the way but were unlucky to suffer their second defeat in a row this time by just the minimum margin against Tullamore in the Div 3 League last Sunday morning in Geashill on a scoreline of 1-14 to 3-07. Raheen were leading by 3 points to 2 when Tullamore struck for their goal on 13 mins. Then it was Tullamore who put over 3 points to Raheen's 2 before Ciaran Direen applied the finishing touch to a pass from Richie Reynolds for Raheen's first goal in the final min of the half which left the sides level at the break 1-05 apiece. Tullamore added 2 more points to Raheen's 1 early in the second half before Gary Martin struck for 2 goals for Raheen in a 10 min spell midway through the half but sandwiched between the 2 goals Tullamore replied with another 5 points to keep the sides level. Both sides then added another point apiece before Tullamore put over the winning point with under 2 mins left.

INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP - ROUND 1
Raheen Intermediate Footballers begin their 2014 Intermediate Championship campaign on this Sunday (27 April) @ 12 Noon in BALLYFORE (Note Change of Venue) when they take on Rhode in Round 1. Best of Luck to the players and management. All support would be appreciated.

JUNIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP - ROUND 1
Raheen Junior Footballers open their Junior B Championship campaign on next Monday (28 April) @ 8PM against Edenderry in Geashill. Best of Luck to the players and management. All support would be appreciated.


MEMBERSHIP
Members are asked to renew their membership as soon as possible but all membership must be paid immediately. Subscriptions are Playing Members €30, Students/ OAP's €15 & Non Playing Members €20. Payments can be given to Membership Officers Paddy Bracken or Padraig Direen. New members are very welcome.

U 14 FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Na Fianna U14 Footballers went down to their third defeat of the League against St Vincents last Monday week in Kilclonfert on a scoreline of 1-10 to 2-13. N Fianna opened the scoring with a pointed free inside the first min but for the remainder of the half it was dominated by St Vincents as they racked up 2-07 to Na Fianna's 1 point which gave St Vincents a comfortable lead of 2-07 to 0-02 at the break. Na Fianna made a raft of substitutions at the start of the second half and they worked well as the deficit was gradually reduced, first a pointed free then a goal from Lee Mulpeter on 5 mins followed by 7 points over the remainder of the half but St Vincents replied with another 6 points which proved to their winning margin in the end.

U16 FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Na Fianna U16 Footballers got their season up and running with a deserved win over Shamrocks in Rd 2 of the League last Tuesday week in Mucklagh on a scoreline of 4-06 to 1-11. Na Fianna who had their resources streched to the limit as they were missing about 10 players put in a very good display.Both sides got off the mark with 2 points apiece before Na Fianna took the lead for the first time on 11 mins with their first goal when David Buckley's high ball into the square was caught by Ray Daly who curled his shot round his man into the net. Na Fianna then added 2 points to Shamrocks 1 before Shamrocks got back in front in the final 10 mins scoring 1-03 without reply which saw them lead at the break by 1-06 to 1-04. Na Fianna came out all fired up and turned the game completely in their favour with a blistering first 10 mins of the second half, first when a shot was parried by the keeper David Buckley was on hand to flick it to net for goal no 2, then after scoring a point Ian Buckley blasted a shot from the edge of the square to the top corner of the net and while Shamrocks replied with a point Na Fianna hot them with anothe sucker punch of goal no 4 on 10 mins when Reece Seery's shot from near halfway was blocked down by the keeper before being tapped into the net by the inrunning Ray Daly. Shamrocks then got going creating plenty of chances over the next 15 mins but could only manage to convert 3 more points. Then in the final few mins Na Fianna steadied the ship as both sides completed their tally with just 1 more point apiece and so Na Fianna held on to claim the win.

MINOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Na Fianna Minor Footballers were forced to concede a walkover to St Vincents in Rd 2 of the League last Thursday evening in Ballycomman as they had only 12 players available to play due to County commitments, holidays, injuries and illnesses.

U14 FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Na Fianna U14 Footballers continue their League campaign with 2 games this weekend. Firstly on Saturday (26 April) at 1PM against St Broughans in Geashill, Then on Monday (28 April) @ 6:45pm against Tullamore in O'Brien Park, Tullamore. All Support would be appreciated.

U16 FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Na Fianna U16 Footballers continue their League campaign V Gracefield in Gracefield next Tuesday (29 April) @ 6:45pm. All Support would be appreciated.

MINOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Na Fianna Minor Footballers continue their League campaign next Wednesday (30 April) @ 7pm as they take on St Broughans in Walsh Island. All Support would be appreciated.

MOUTH-GUARDS
A very important reminder to ALL players at all levels in the Club - From 1st Jan 2014 all players must wear a mouth-guard in all official training sessions and games. A players insurance is null and void if he fails to wear a guard. The club expect 100% compliance.
