The EDEN CLAIMS Sponsored Edenderry U14 Football Team recorded a huge win in Rd. 2 of the U14 Football League away to DER Gaels;

Edenderry 8-22
DER Gaels 1-02

Another great win for our U14 boys against D.E.R Gaels in Pullough last Monday night. Fantastic teamwork from start to finish and all 18 players contributed handsomely to this performance. The most satisfying aspect of our performance was the manner in which we worked the ball from defence to attack. With great support play, accurate passing and a willingness to give the ball to the player in the best scoring position, we clocked up some really pleasing team scores.

While some of our shooting left us in no doubt that we have lots of room for improvement, there is no doubt that we have the potential to have a really good season. Turnout at training and matches has been poor to date but this will hopefully improve as we move to mid-week training. Attendance at training is being monitored and team selection will always favour those that the highest attendance.

Edenderry 3-10
Na Fianna 4-04

The EDEN CLAIMS Sponsored U14's had another a fantastic hard fought win within the space of a week. Playing into a very strong breeze and conceding two goals in the first five minutes, it looked like we were in for a long night. Instead the team, to a man, dug deep and put in a fantastic performance for the remainder of the half. Some really strong carries out of defence and fantastic support play from the midfield and half forward line helped us close the gap to 2 points at half time.

Playing with the strong wind in the second half, we put together some lovely moves in attach while the full back line mopped up everything that came their way. The full forward line, while not always having things their own way, continued to show for the ball, scored some crucial scores and linked very well with the outside support. With ten minutes to go we had built up a comfortable lead but conceding two late goals gave us a nervous last few minutes. Something to work on....

The EDEN CLAIMS Sponsored Edenderry U16 Football Team suffered a defeat in Rd. 1 of the U16 Football League away to Ballinamere/Durrow;

Edenderry 3-08
Ballinamere/Durrow 4-15

The U16 footballers sponsored by EDEN CLAIMS played Durrow away in Rd.1 of the league last week, unfortunately we didn't get the points on this occasion.

This was the first game of the year for the lads & it showed with a poor opening half,our lads were rusty to start & made some basic mistakes but when we got into our stride put some excellent moves together & kicked some wonderful scores.

There were countless positives to be taken from this defeat with the large numbers of players that donned the red jersey on the night 23 in all , this is a super sign of the commitment & dedication that is needed to build a strong championship squad.The way in which the team played this game when they found there feet was very encouraging with good tackling & work to win the the ball. With plenty of support play to create scoring chances ,every single member of the squad when called on gave it there all & working hard to help each other.

There is huge potential for this group of young reds to have a rewarding year once the numbers keep turning up to training & they keep the attitude that they have started the year with.

A special thanks to all the parents who travelled to the game & assisted in the transport of the team many thanks the management & club are grateful.

The JV Byrne Sponsored Junior Footballers suffered their first defeat of the season in Div. 3 of the League against Intermediate side Cappincur.

Cappincur 1-19
Edenderry 2-08

The Reds were always going to be up against it in this encounter as a well prepared Cappincur side that have ambitions on the Offaly Intermediate Championship and sit at the top of Division 3 played on a heavy pitch on Saturday.

An under strength Edenderry side battled hard but never recovered from a blistering start by Cappincur. The Reds found themselves 1-03 to 0-01 down after five minutes and despite tireless work in defence and around the middle failure to kill the ball in attack was proving costly. Cappincur were making the most of the wind advantage and had a commanding lead at the break 1-12 to 0-02. The Edenderry scores coming courtesy of Seán Óg Farrell and Basil Malone. A melee 5 minutes before the break saw Johnny Blong and Peter Manley receive their marching orders along with the centre back for Cappincur.

Thing settled down in the second half and Edenderry battled their way back into this game. The careful retention of possession and a general tightening of marking combined with some good scoring allowed Edenderry put some scores on the board. If it were not for some wayward shooting the Reds would have brought a tight finish to the game.

Edenderry were well served throughout - David Farrelly and Stephen Abbott in defence, Sean Marshall and Sean Og fought hard all day in the middle while upfront Cillian Farrell handled a sight of possession and Lee Hyland, John Gorman and Aaron McDonald worked hard.

TEAM: C. Lawton, P. Foy, D. Farrelly, J. Blong, D. Ryan, P. Manley, S. Abbott, S. Og Farrell 0-3, S. Marshall 1-1, L. Hyland, B. Malone 0-1, J. Dolan, C. Farrell 0-1, A. McDonnell 1-0, J. Gorman 0-3.

SUBS: J. Farrell for P. Foy (Blackcard) & J. McInerney for J. Dolan (Blackcard)
