Monaghan manager Malachy O'Rourke is sure that Mayo will be keen to return to winning ways when the sides meet at MacHale Park on Sunday.

Mayo lost to Tyrone last time out, while Monaghan went down to Cork and with both on two points, this weekend's match takes on extra significance.

O'Rourke admitted to the Northern Standard that they are wary of a backlash from Mayo, but added that his charges had to be prepared for that.

"There is no doubt that this is a very important game for both teams but then we said from the start that there were no guarantees going into any match in this league because they are all 50-50 games," said O'Rourke.

"Mayo would certainly have been disappointed to have lost to Tyrone at home and that would have knocked them back a bit, but it's also something that could also generated a big response from them and there could be a backlash from them on Sunday."
