Monaghan have followed Armagh's lead by preventing their players from conducting media interviews ahead of this weekend's Ulster SFC semi-final replay.

Speaking to the Newry Democrat this week, Armagh manager Grimley revealed that he had decided to impose a media blackout as a result of what he describes as the 'hysterical reporting' of the pre-match brawl that marred the Orchard County's Ulster SFC quarter-final victory over Cavan last month, and which led to suspensions for Kieran Toner, Andy Mallon and Brendan Donaghy.

And it now appears that his Monaghan counterpart Malachy O'Rourke has taken a similar course of action, with requests for interviews with players being turned down this week.

Ironically, the move comes after GAA director-general and Monaghan native Paraic Duffy had appealed to managers before the start of the championship to facilitate media requests in the interests of promoting the sport.
