Moylagh's Colm Fanning

Moylagh 2-08 Carnaross 1-11

This opening round of the JFC played in Millbrook provided plenty of entertainmeny on Sunday morning. Moylagh went in to this game as rank outsiders, with Carnaross some people's favourites to take outright honours.

Moylagh started the game at a blistering pace aided by a very strong wind and Sean Reilly raised the green flag after two minutes after a great team move. Two points in quick succession and a goal from Eanna Brody had Carnaross at six's and seven's before the settled into the game. Tom Shine's charges had Moylagh's lead narrowed down to four points before the team in green finished the half the strongest with TJ Tully and Peter Fox kicking over the last two points of the half to leave Moylagh heading into the second half with a six point lead and facing a very stiff breeze.

The second half started off slowly enough for both teams but Carnaross started picking of their points and with ten minutes remaining got in for a goal to leave one point between the teams. Moylagh replied with a Eanna Brody free following good work from Tommy O Reilly, but yet again Carnaross kept picking of their scores and took the lead entering the final few minutes after having a their full back getting his marching orders for a high tackle on Tommy O Reilly.

Jamie Magee levelled the scores on the stroke of full time, with four minutes of injury time to be played it left an intense finish for the large crowd of supporters on both sides yet again Canaross took the lead. With time running out Moylaghs ever green Colm Fanning had the final say and both teams had to settle for a share of the spoils in a great entertaining first round game.

Moylagh had great performances from Shane Gibney, Darren Gibney, Peter Fox, Sean Reilly and Joe Meila
