FL Div 1: First loss for Simonstown

Simonstown Gaels 1-12 St Patricks 1-15 

Simonstown Gaels suffered their first loss in the A league division 1 to St Patrick's. The game was competitive throughout but St. Pats scored some very impressive long range points in the game to separate themselves from Simonstown.

The game began with Simonstown opening the scoring through a Padraig McKeever free and a Mark McCabe flick on from a free. St Pats responded with a point from play and a free. The first half was very tight with Simonstown and St Pats exchanging scores throughout. Padraig McKeever was an important player for Simonstown scoring three of Simonstown's 5 points in the first half. Nathan O'Brien combined well with his brother Nicky O'Brien in the 16 minute to leave Simonstown 0:4 - 0:3 up. However, St Pats had a stronger finish to the first half and they led 0-6 to  0-5 at half time. St Pats could have been further ahead but Simonstown's goalkeeper Robbie Burlingham saved smartly to prevent a goal in the 22nd minute.

8 minutes into the second half and the game exploded into life with Mark McCabe scoring a goal to put Simonstown ahead for the first time since the 16th minute. However this lead did not last long with St Pats attacking in the very next play and scoring a goal. Their first attempt was saved by Robbie Burlingham but St Pats responded quickest to the rebound and finished past the helpless Burlingham. This proved to be the significant moment in the game and Simonstown struggled to recover after the goal. St Pats were five points up with 10 minutes remaining and Simonstown rallied towards the end the game to make it very interesting. Padraig McKeever scored 3 quick points and substitute Seamus Kenny scored to leave the game 1-12 to 1-13 with 5 minutes remaining. St Pats were able to see out the victory and scored 2 points in dying moments to leave the final score St Pats 1-12 Simonstown 1-15.

Best for Simonstown were Padraig Mckeever, Nathan O'Brien, Stephen O'Reilly, Neil Kane and Robbie Burlingham.
