Nash loss to Aussie Rules lamented

Simonstown's Conor Nash heads for the Gaeil Colmcille goal during the Meath SFC semi final at Pairc Tailteann.

Trevor Giles reckons the AFL-bound Conor Nash will be a huge loss to Meath football.

The talented youngster will join Hawthorn on a two-year international rookie contract after he lines out for Simonstown Gaels in Sunday's Meath SFC final against Donaghmore/Ashbourne.

"You'd be waiting for some superstars to come up through the ranks," Royal County legend Giles said in the Irish Sun.

"But when one does, he's heading to Australia for a couple of years. That's the thing nowadays. We were all growing up when Meath were successful.

"All you wanted to do was play for Meath, whereas now you're kind of saying, 'Jeez, Meath will they get success?'

"So he's gone to Australia and he has Leinster Rugby looking for him too if that doesn't work out."
