Junior: Dunsany impress in victory

July 30, 2016

Drumconrath's Terry Skelly

Dunsany 3-13 Drumconrath 1-10

Drumconrath as good as bowed out of the Junior Championship when going under to last years beaten finalists in Bective.

As seems to be common place lately Drumconrath's slow start had them under the cosh with Dunsany netting on their 1st attack when cutting through the centre of the Drums defence after 28 seconds.

Points on 3 and 7 minutes gave them a further cushion and another attack led to a penalty which was hit high and over the bar to leave it 1-3 to 0-0 after 10 minutes.

Pado Farrelly pointed Drums 1st score on 11 but things got worse for Drums when after Keeper Conor O'Halloran pulled off a save but Dunsany reacted 1st and drove the loose ball high to the net.

Terry Skelly was putting up some decent resistance and fired over a defiant point but again Dunsany scored at will with 3 further points. Jamie Myles added a third for Drumconrath. Three more Dunsany points before the half ended as Farrelly pointed to send the sides to the break with Drumconrath down 11 points 2-9 to 0-4.

The half time huddle seemed to give Drums a bit of a spark and they totally dominated the 3rd quarter by outscoring Dunsany 1-5 to no score to narrow the gap to 3 points. Skelly pointed from the throw in and within a minute Farrelly pointed again. A long range Sean McMahon free was fumbled badly by the Dunsany keeper and the ball ended up in the net.

Buoyed on by this Drums piled forward with Tomas Conlon pointing and Farrelly hitting a free over. McMahon boomed over a long range free and Dunsany looked decidedly nervous at 2-9 to 1-9.

Drums had further chances but Dunsany steadied the ship with a well struck free and two further points gave them a cushion. Drums keeper pulled off a fine save at the expense of a 45 but was helpless soon after as in a goal mouth scramble Dunsany got their 3rd goal.

Jamie Myles pointed with 10 minutes to go and there was only one further score as Dunsany pointed in injury time.

Peter and Aiden Tighe worked tirelessly for Drumconrath with Eoin Martin looking good going forward. Terry Skelly and Jamie Myles also had good moments.
