JFC C: Comfortable win for St Michaels

May 30, 2016

Tommy Moriarty - St Michaels

St. Michaels 1-19, Oldcastle 0-5

St. Michaels made the trip to a balmy Moylagh on Thursday evening last where they met with little resistance to ensure that they top the table with two wins from two outings in the Junior C FC with this comfortable 17 point victory over Oldcastle.

The winners raced into a 1-7 to 0-1 lead after only 15 minutes play after Ronan Farrell found the back of the net in the opening minute. In total six different players got on the score-sheet for St. Michaels in that opening quarter as Kevin Cassidy, Paddy Callaghan, Darren O'Connell, Johnny Reilly and Shane McDonnell followed Farrell's opener sharing seven points between them. Oldcastle's only first half score came on 13 minutes and although they enjoyed their fair share of possession they were always stymied by the hard working St. Michael defence and mid-field section led by the impressive Paddy Clarke. St. Michaels finished the half with 6 more points on the trot as Reilly (3) McDonnell, O'Connell and Lee Morris (1 each) all found the target to lead 1-13 to 0-1 at the break.

Both sides traded two points apiece in the opening ten minutes of the second half, however scores were at a premium thereafter with both sides registering just a further two points apiece for the remaining 20 minutes. St. Michaels saw the return of Alan Dolan and Ben and John Farrell back in action, some of whom came back from well over 12 months in retirement and the rustiness showed at times as some of their shots were well off target, but all is forgiven lads, ye are all welcome back.

St. Michaels team & scorers: Alan Dolan, Seanie Gaffney, Dáithi O'Reilly, Adam O'Brien, Thomas O'Brien, Paddy Callaghan 0-1, Tommy Moriarty, Paddy Clarke, John Farrell, Lee Morris 0-1, Johnny Reilly 0-6, Kevin Cassidy 0-2, Ronan Farrell 1-0, Darren O'Connell 0-4, Shane McDonnell 0-5. Sub: Ben Farrell for Ronan Farrell.
