SYDDAN have to content themselves with a preliminary quarter final spot after suffering defeat in the JF C championship at Walterstown.

The concession of 1-4 in a 10 minute spell after half-time proved costly as the Dunboyne men took a firm grip on proceedings at that stage.

Dunboyne eventually went eight points clear before a Syddan revival saw that lead cut the the minimum in the closing minutes.

A brilliantly excuted goal from Michael Fedigan left Syddan ahead 1-1 to 0-1 after 10 minutes but by the end of an uneventful opening half that lead had been cut to a single point, 1-3 to 0-5.

Dunboyne upped the tempo on the restart with four successive points before they struck for their opening goal to go 1-9 to 1-3 clear.

Kevin Carry got Syddan off the mark in the second half before sub Richie Sheehy added another point. However Syddan suffered a further blow when Dunboyne again found the net to lead 2-10 to 1-5.

Robbie Farrelly's penalty goal threw Syddan a lifeline with 10 minutes remaining, and with Farrelly added two points just the minimum separated the sides in added time.

Syddan though were unable to force an equaliser and it was Dunboyne who notched the games' final score.
