Simonstown's Eve Wardick

St. Ultans 1-18
Simonstown Ladies 2-09

Simonstown Ladies hopes for victory in their Senior Championship debut were quashed by a strong St. Ultans side who came away from Bective on Tuesday evening with the spoils from this first round encounter.

Simonstown were first on the scoreboard with two points from Kelsey Nesbitt.  St. Ultans opening score came from a free and Simonstown responded with points from mid-fielder Niamh Lister and Nesbitt.   Simonstown's last score of the half came from an Eleanor Lane free before St. Ultan's capitalised on their accurate link up play and mobility and scored six unanswered points to go in to the break with a three point lead. Half Time:  St. Ultan's 0-08   Simonstown Ladies 0-05

Simonstown Ladies narrowed the gap to one on the restart with a converted free and a fine point from Kelly Harris.   St. Ultan's then upped the pace and kept the scoreboard ticking over although they were gifted their only goal of the encounter when a low free attempt  was deflected in to the net off a Simonstown defender. With Simonstown Ladies coming under greater pressure the St. Ultan's ladies were dogged in their attack and took control.  A last minute low shot to the net by Naoise de Graaff lessoned the gap to six when Referee Colm McManus blew the final whistle.

Simonstown Ladies face the defending Senior champions Seneschalstown in Round 2 next Tuesday evening. Venue TBC.
