Oldcastle 2-09

Oldcastle failed to keep their half time advantage and were narrowly beaten by Dunboyne on Sunday morning.

Dunboyne were first of the mark hitting over a point from play but Oldcastle soon got on top with Gerard Reidy, Brian Griffin and Philip Reilly hitting the target. Dunboyne hit back with 1-01 of their own to give them the lead. The sides shared scores for the remaining quarter with Packie Kevin hitting two frees after a great run from Ignas Ramonas. Dunboyne converted one of their own but Brian Griffin netted for Oldcastle following great work from Ross Cadden, Matthew Cadden and Oran O'Reilly. Packie Kevin hit over another free to give Oldcastle a one point lead at half time.

The second half saw a battle between the sides for the win. Dunboyne were first to score again but Packie Kevin replied to keep the advantage. Dunboyne made no mistake as they placed the next five scores between the posts unanswered. Oldcastle didn't give up with Ross Cadden winning the ball and working with Gary Griffin and Brian Griffin to land the ball into Conor Delaney as he took on the goal shot with accuracy. This brought Oldcastle Back into the game and they continued to battle to earn the win. Dunboyne were on target for the next two points and these proved the difference as Oldcastle could only hit over one more with John Smith on target to leave them one point short at the final whistle.
