May 25, 2015

Moynalty's Ollie Sheridan

Moynalty 3-10
Moynalvey 2-13

Moynalty and Moynalvey ended in stalemate at Martry on Saturday evening after a very entertaining game in wet conditions.

The men from north meath will feel alittle disappointed at not taken the maximum points having put themselves in a winning position with 10 minutes to go with a 6 point lead . However the Moynalvey men showed great fight and belief to snatch out a draw at the death. The opening half was a very tight affair with Moynalty holding a slight edge with corner forward Ollie Sheridan kicking 4 points 2 from play and Plunkett Tormay adding a further point.Moynalvey replied with 4 of their own to leave just the minimum between the sides at the break.During the first half Moynalty were guilty of some poor wides and found the very mobile opposition forward line a handfull and the tight confines of martry very restrictive for a young team.

The reds came out in the third quarter full of intent and their was a big increase in workrate which yielded an early well taken goal from Moynaltys best player Ollie Sheridan and this was followed by both sides swapping 3 points apiece with Paul Lynch ,Joseph Curley and Sheridan on the scoresheet. The Moynalvey men rallied and got their reward with a goal in the 43rd minutes to leave scoreline 1-09 TO 1-08 going into the last quarter. The intensity of the game increased in the last quarter and Moynalty found the edge with Plunkett Tormay in fine form with great high fielding and marauding runs and were rewarded with two quick well taken goals from the on fire Ollie Sheridan who scored 2-07 and Paddy Byrne .Suddenly it looked as if the north meath men had set for home but Moynalvey had other ideas and tagged on 2 late points and a well worked goal to leave the minimum between the sides. They followed up with a late free to gain a share of the spoils in the 62nd minute.Best for Moynalty on the night were Ronan MCMahon ,Plunkett Tormay and James Cassidy in defence ,Conor oLoughlin ,Paul Lynch and Ollie Sheridan in the middle and final third.

The result keeps the Moynalty men unbeaten in the championship and also will focus the minds on the hard work ahead if the holy grail is to be acheived .

Moynalty Report

Moynalvey 2-13 Moynalty 3-10

Moynalvey and Moynalty played out an entertaining draw in this Junior 'B' Championship round three tie played at Martry on Saturday evening May 23rd.

The first half of this contest was a low scoring affair with Moynalty holding a slight half time advantage on a 0-5 to 0-4 score line. Moynalty had two points on the score board before Moynalvey opened their account in the 4th minute when James Kelly pointed. Two minutes later a Ciaran Ennis free drew the sides level, Moynalvey's remaining two first half points also came from Ennis frees.

The second half was a higher scoring contest which included five goals, the first of these coming within 30 seconds of the restart when Moynalty raised the game's first green flag. Moynalvey points from James Kelly and Sean Duggan had the deficit back to two points after four minutes. James Kelly's second point of the evening along with points from James Reilly and Fearghal McCabe in response to a brace of Moynalty points left the minimum between the sides on the three quarter hour mark, 1-7 to 0-9. Three unanswered points extended Moynalty's advantage once again before Ciaran Ennis chipped over soccer style a loose ball in the 21st minute and within 30 seconds the sides were level for only the second time when James Kelly fired home Moynalvey's first goal. Parity between the sides was short lived as a minute later Moynalty had the ball in the back of the Moynalvey net for a second time. Moynalty's third goal arrived in the 55th minute handing them a six point advantage with just five minutes remaining. Moynalvey substitute player/manager Barry O'Keeffe split the uprights in the 58th minute and sixty seconds later Ennis blasted home from close range the game's fifth goal. Two minute into injury time a point attempt was deflected over the crossbar by a Moynalty defender and then in the third minute of additional injury time Ennis stepped forward to convert a free meaning Moynalvey picked up their second point of the campaign following their earlier first round draw with Walterstown.
