Clonard 0-6

Curraha made it six wins from six in Division 4AFL after a convincing win against Clonard who made the long journey to Curraha on Wednesday evening.

Man of the Match Conor Moriarty opened the scoring for the home side and they would lead from start to finish. Curraha were well on top and pointed frees from Moriarty and David Toner had Curraha three points in front before the away side got their first score of the game. Curraha were well on top in the middle third and some fine fielding by Neil Shortall gave Curraha a good platform for the game and he replied to Clonards opening score with a well taken point. Ian McManus got on the score board while Moriarty added another free. Shortall and Joyce were winning the midfield battle and they were helped by others around them picking up any loose ball and Shortall added his second from long range. A pointed free from Clonard reduced to deficit to five with less than ten minutes to go in the opening half but Curraha stepped up another gear and finished the half very strongly scoring 1-04 without reply. This late surge started with a point from McManus while fellow inside partner Ciaran O'Hanrahan added two points. David Toner then turned over the Clonard defence and ran at goal where he coolly finished to the net and added a point as well just before the half time whistle.

Clonard opened the scoring of the second half with their third pointed free but this was cancelled out when Andrew Battersby got on the end of well worked move after Toner and Phelim Dowling switched the play from one side of the field to another. Clonard then got on top for ten minutes and scored three unanswered points from frees with the referee being quite generous on numerous occasions but Curraha dug deep to get back on top and when John O'Brien emptied his bench the fresh legs got Curraha back on top. Dowling got two scores after moving into midfield while Moriarty and Toner added points. At this stage the game was over but substitutes Sean Keogh and Niall Moriarty got on the score sheet with well taken points while fellow sub Danny Battersby raised a green flag after receiving a sublime pass from Toner and he buried to the top corner. Toner rounded off proceedings with a free to leave Curraha unbeaten and sitting at the top of Division 4.
