JFC B: Slane off to a great start

April 20, 2015

Slane's Matt Tully keeps his eye on the ball during the opening round of the Junior B football championship at Kilmainham.

Slane 3-17
Dunderry 0-5

Slane got their Junior B campaign off to the perfect start in a sunny Kilmainham on Sunday afternoon. Dunderry started the brightest of the two sides and raced into a 0-3 to 0-1 lead, the Slane score coming from Eanna Mooney.

Slane then kicked into gear and two more scores from Dermot Lynch and Gareth Kealy levelled matters after only 5 minutes. The Boynesiders then produced a fantastic team move from back to front before Kealy powerfully finished to give Slane their first goal of the match. Slane tagged on two further points before Kevin Reilly moved forward and found the back of the net to give Slane their second goal of the game. Slane were in complete control of the football at this stage and restricted Dunderry to only one more score in the first half. Slane added a further 1-1 to the scoreboard, with a point from Mooney and a well taken goal through Danny Carolan.

Half  Time 3-6 to 0-4

The second half began like the first with the men in white and blue starting sluggish but their defence held strong and didn't allow Dunderry any space in the scoring zones. Slane then kicked into life again with Mooney producing their first score of the half. Slane then introduced Meath Minor Podge McGowan to the proceedings and he registered a score with his first involvement in the match. Slane added further points through Lynch, Eoin Feeley and Kealy before Lynch capitalised on a poor kick out only to be dragged down inside the square as he tried to get his shot away. Alan Harding stepped up but narrowly missed the top corner as his penalty went wide. Harding was determined to add his name to the score sheet and when McGowan found him with a brilliant pass the midfielder rattled the cross bar and sailed over the bar. Slane dominated the remainder of the match and Carolan and McGowan added a further 3 points a piece to the Slane tally.

Slane will be happy with there afternoons work and move on to face Gael Colmcille next Sunday in Bohermeen.
