March 31, 2015

Dunshaughlin's Cathal O'Dwyer

St Peters Dunboyne 0-12
Dunshaughlin 0-13

Dunshaghilin traveled up the old N3 to neighbours Dunboyne on Saturday evening in a quest to keep their 100% Div 1 A League record intact in the last league game before championship football.

It did not take the visiting team long to get on the scoreboard with their first score of the game coming from an unlikely source after 2 minutes from corner back Michael Ahern with Dunboyne getting their first score a minute alter and another score 3 minutes later to lead by a point. A converted Cathal o'Dwyer free and two fine scores from veteran sharpshooter Trevor Dowd and Ben Duggan had the pendulum now swinging in Dunshauglin's favour with consistent free taker Cathal o'Dwyer adding another score from a free to now have Dunshaghlin looking good. Ray Maloney fresh from a visit to the darts on Thursday night took a leaf out of Phil the power Taylor's book and was on hand to get his first score of the night with Maloney showing similar deadly accuracy to the 16 time world time champion Taylor taking out double 16 in the Ali Pali. However Dunboyne were to have the final say of the half with them scoring at the stroke of half time to have both teams level at 7 points apiece.

The second half resumed with another converted O'Dwyer free before Tadhg O'Dushlaine was on hand to score a brilliant point to have the visitors back in front again. Dunshaughlin now were enjoying total dominance in regards to the scoreboard with that man Cathal O'Dyer getting his first score of the night from play and Michael Ahern showing that lightning can strike twice with him getting his second score of the night. Maynoth 'graduate' Niall Murphy lined out at centre back and he managed to get his first score of the game with 7 mins remaining with Conor Devereux showing great initiative and hard work to turn over a ball that resulted in Murphys crucial score. A Cathal O'Dwyer converted free yet again now put Dunshaughlin in the lead by 4 but Dunboyne battled valiantly to get two more scores with Dunshaughlin running out 2 point winners. Best of Dunshaughlin in a fantastic team performance was Cathal O'Dwyer, Ben Duggan, Ray Maloney, Trevor Dowd and Michael Ahern.
