AFL4: Curraha defeat Ballivor

March 31, 2015

Curraha's Phelim Dowling

Curraha 2-08
Ballivor 1-07

A five minute blitz at the start of the game from Ballivor was bettered by a five minute blitz in the last five minutes as the away side came away with a four point win thanks to an unanswered 1-03 inside the final five minutes.

Ballivor opened up the scoring in this tight Division 4 AFL encounter with a point inside the opening minute and shortly after a goal was added to this advantage along with another point. Curraha had yet to get out of their own half but they finally got to grips with the wind and heavy going and Mark Jackson opened their scoring with a point before Niall Moriarty added two frees late in the half to leave the away side trailing by two at the break.

Moriarty brought the deficit back to the minimum after the break but Ballivor replied with two points bringing their advantage to three but a well worked move from Curraha saw Ian McManus playing a superb pass into Ciaran O'Hanrahan who passed to Moriarty whom then finished to the net leaving the sides level for the first time. Ballivor did respond straight away with a point but McManus slotted over a long distance free to draw level once more. With ten minutes remaining Ballivor kicked on and went two points ahead but this battle hardened Curraha side never gave up and showed real determination to get the two points on offer. The five minute blitz started with a David Toner free before McManus got another point to draw the teams level with three minutes remaining. Curraha then got the vital score with a Ciaran O'Hanrahan goal while fellow substitute and brother Sean O'Hanrahan added a point to seal victory for Curraha who remain unbeaten in the league.

Best for Curraha were Phelim Dowling, Simon McDermott and McManus.
