Minor Boys

Walterstown faced a tough task to the start of their minor campaign when they headed to Ardcath to face combination side St.Vincents/Curraha.

The match was played 11 a side as Walterstown could only field 11 players due to injuries and players unavailable.

The blacks got off to a bad start conceding 2 early goals and never really recovered from this. The boys fought hard and showed great desire however at half time the combination side were well in front with a lead of 3-9 to 1-3.

The blacks showed great determination in the second half and played to the end but St.Vincents/Currha ran out 4-15 to 1-06 winners.

The minor boys were ranked in division 2 where they were always going to find it hard to compete however the team showed great desire and with players to come back from injury hopefully there will be better days to come.

U16 Girls

Walterstown U16 Girls played their first league match today in a sunny but windy cold day in Stamullen.

The blacks played into the wind in the first half and had to defend stoutly to keep the St.Pats Girls from taking complete control of the game. St Pats scored 1-01 in the first 15 minutes. It could have been a lot worse only for the blacks very good defending.

Walterstown got their only point in the first half from a free by Laura Fox. With 5 minutes left in the half, St.Pats were leading 1-01 to 0-1 and further increased this lead scoring a sloppy goal to leave the blacks trailing at half time 2-01 to 0-1.

Walterstown came out in the 2nd half very strong and with the wind behind them Laura Fox and Eleanor Murchan took control of the midfield and the blacks laid siege on the St.Pats goal.

Walterstown scored a great goal to start the second half when Laura Fox put in a high ball and S.Gaynor slotted into the back of the net.

The blacks kept the scoreboard ticking over with Laura Fox scoring 2 points from play. With fifteen minutes gone Kate McCarthy worked a great one two and fisted into the back of the net. The blacks now lead by a point and went on to score 4 more points to give them a deserved win.
