Kehoe Cup: easy for Royals

January 26, 2015

Meath full back Shane Brennan

Meath 7-18
Louth 2-8

New Meath manager Martin Ennis picked up his second win in the space of a week with this comfortable Kehoe Cup second round victory over Louth at Darver.

After a tough opening round win over St Pats Mater Dei at Pairc Tailteann, Meath had no problem dispatching the Louth challenge, with the Wee County losing their opening game to Longford.

Playing with the elements the winners were ahead at the break 5-13 to 0-0. Kildalkey's Paddy Connelly finished top scorer for Meath with 1-7 while Seanie Doyle (Kilmessan) in his first senior start scored 3-1. Michael Dunne, Gary Kelly and Anthony Healy also raised green flags for the winners. Louth aided by the wind came more in to the game in the second half and got goals from Gerard Smyth and Gavin Kane. Meath had James Toher dismissed early in the second half (second yellow) also introduced Luke Martyn and Sean Quigley to the fray for their first taste of county senior hurling action.

Next up for Meath is Longford in Trim while Louth face St Pats in Darver.
