Club Hurling Team of the Week

October 15, 2014

Peter Durnin raises the Jubilee Cup at Pairc Tailteann.

So there you have it. Kiltale are the senior hurling championship winner, their third such title since 2007. In what was one of the finest ever county final displays, they had too much for a very gallant Trim team on the day. There was also celebration out Dunderry way as they brought home the intermediate title. We pick our last hurling team of the week for 2014.

1. Shane McGann (Kiltale)

The best keeper in the county by a proverbial mile. His puck outs were the launch pad for many of the Kiltale scores. Threw in a fantastic save towards the end for good measure.

2. Ciaran Ennis (Kiltale)

Another tidy and effective performance from the corner back. A great motivator to all around him.

3. David Donoghue (Kiltale)

The main reason why the entire Trim full forward line was held to a single point. He even managed to pop up for a score of his own.

4. Derek Muldoon (Kilskyre)

Kilskyre's best player on the day. Played through the pain barrier with a serious wrist injury.

5. Luke Moran (Trim)

Never gave up the fight and covered every blade of grass on Pairc Tailteann. Hit one of the scores of the game towards the end.

6. John Donoghue (Kiltale)

Brought all his experience to bear as Kiltale took home their third Jubilee Cup in nine years.

7. Cillian Minogue (Dunderry)

Was on hand to clear time and again under immense pressure as Dunderry were crowned intermediate champions.

8. Anthony Forde (Kiltale)

Outstanding in the middle of the park for the Jubilee Cup winners. Demonstrated a brilliant work rate and ended up scoring 1-2.

9. Padraig Kelly (Kiltale)

Started with number 5 on his back but handed the task on marking James Toher. Was a very close second for the man of the match award and scored two brilliant points.

10. James Toher (Trim)

Probably not one of his most productive games this year but still managed to score ten points. Never gave up the ghost as Trim chased their first SHC title since 2001.

11. Stephen Donoghue (Kiltale)

His best performance of the year in a Kiltale shirt. Scored two points and gave Trim's best defender Colm Doyle a tough afternoon.

12. David Gilkeson (Dunderry)

On a day when free taking was always going to be crucial Gilkeson stepped up to the mark and his four consecutive points in the latter stages of the intermediate final won the day for Dunderry.

13. Mark O'Sullivan (Kiltale)

A constant threat to the Trim rearguard. He hit a fine point and covered most of the Pairc Tailteann sod for the Kiltale cause.

14. Peter Durnin (Kiltale)

Back to his best on county final day. Adopted a roving role, the team captain led by example and picked off five points from all parts of the pitch.

15. Jack Regan (Kiltale)

It was some performance from last year's county minor captain. Ten points in total, five from play, and a man of the match award. His last point of the first half summed up his day - a free on his own half back line that cleared the Trim bar with plenty to spare.
