BFL3 final: Strong second half display sees Pat's overcome Na Fianna

October 06, 2014

St Pats celebrate their B league success at Skryne.

St Patrick's overturned a six point half time deficit to overpower Na Fianna in a well presented Skyrne pitch on Sunday evening.

St. Patricks 1-16 Na Fianna 2-9

A very enjoyable match played in Skryne last evening under lights, the third time these two teams meet this year with a win to St. Pats and a draw between them.

Both teams started at great pace but it was the sharp finishing of Na Fianna forwards that kept the teams apart, unfortunately at the other end St. Pats forwards missed to open chances of goeals to keep the pressure on the Na Fianna men.

Thge opening half was played at a very fast pace throughout. St POats went in at the break 0-5 to 2-5 down. Thing could have been worst for the eventual winners but for sonme fine defending from Diarmaid Leahy, Andrew Reilly, J.P. Ryan and Keith Whearty.

The second half brought changes to the better for St. Pats as the forwards battled hard for the supply of ball which yielded many points and before too long they had drawn level, from Neil O'Flaherty, Alan Vickers and Daithi Whyte, with O'Flaherty in particular hitting some points to take the game away from the opposition.

With the introduction of some more fresh legs the Pats continued with the charges forwarded and continued to point the game away from their opponents of Na Fianna, with some fine passing leading to the finish to the net by Daithi Whyte.

The new blood of St. Pats continues to flow into the adult teams and the wisdom of some of the senior players an assist to say the least, Adam Byrne and John Curtis making a quality contribution, and Aaron Mulvany and Conor Tully when introduced.

The Presentation on the night was made by Mairead Delaney from the County Board of the new inaugural cup presented to the County by Bective GAA Club in honour of the late John Moran - The John Moran Memorial Cup.

NA FIANNA REPORT

Na Fianna 2-09
St Patricks 1-16

St Patrick's overturned a six point half time deficit to overpower Na Fianna in a well presented Skyrne pitch on Sunday evening.

A much younger and inexperienced Na Fianna side caused the Stamullen side lots of problems in the first half with Barry Slevin and Andrew Glynn to the fore and well supported by Sean Griffin. Slevin opened the Na Fianna account with a well taken point followed by a Griffin effort. Anthony Neary then strode forward and finished well to the net after an excellent centre from the impressive Griffin. A great run through the middle from Michale Collins presented Slevin with another scoring chance which he tapped over and Gavin Gillespie then added a pointed free as Na Fianna looked set to cause an upset.

St Pats regrouped at the break and dominated proceedings, restricting Na Fianna to four second half points. Two of the points were frees from Andrew Glynn and Gavin Gillespie while Lee Hyland popped up in the forwards and sent over a fine effort. Slevin added Na Fianna's final point to complete a disappointing weekend for Na Fianna.

Na Fianna had good performances from Ciaran Brennan, Jamie McCormack, Lee Hyland, Paddy Haslam, Damien Downey, Sean Griffin, Barry Slevin and Andrew Glynn.

Na Fianna: Ciaran Brennan, Aaron Farrell, Jamie McCormack, James Geagan, Lee Hyland (0-1), Paddy Haslam, Anthony Neary (1-0), Evan Henrick, Michael Collins, Damien Downey (0-1), Sean Griffin (0-1), Richie Massey (1-0), Andrew Glynn (0-1), Gavin Gillespie (0-2,2f), Barry Slevin (0-3). Subs used: Paul Kennedy, Evan Mullally, Donal Curran.
