IHC semi-final: Kilskyre down Drumree

September 29, 2014

Good practice for next Sunday. Benji Smith uses his boot to clear for Kilskyre against Drumree in the Meath IHC semi final at Trim.

Intermediate Hurling Championship Semi Final

Kilskyre 2-11
Drumree 1-9

Competitors and rivals Kilskyre and Drumree competed to see who can book a place in the final against Dunderry after coming down from senior last year.

Drumree were hot favourites to win this semi final and go straight back up, but enter Kilskyre, an outfit from North Meath who are trying to get back up senior for the last twenty years, and the spanner has entered the works...This was not a classic by any means but it was a game involving two clubs with a history and passion for hurling.

In the first half Kilskyre opened the scoring with a pointed free from Tommy Shine but then Drumree took control scoring four on the trot, but the Kilskyre men hit back with a well taken point from Peadar Byrne and points from play and placed balls from Shine to go in at half time 0-5 to 0-5.

In the second half both sides traded scores, but was not until James O'Higgins struck the net with a will taken goal that a small gap appeared and Kilskyre never looked back.  Enter Michael Geraghty starting his first game for three months after being out due to injury, popped over two superb points from play and a brillant goal taken by Charles Brogan, Kilskyre booked their place in the final against old rivals Dunderry.

Kilskyre had outstanding preformances throughout the field with the Muldoon brothers and Thomas Nugent in defence, Man of the Match Seanie Geraghty at midfield, his brother Michael, Tom Shine and Simon Deevey up front were outstanding. At the end of the day this was a superb team preformance from Kilskyre. Kilskyre book their place in the fianl against Dunderry and are only an hour away from celebrating with a trophy that they last won twenty years ago.
