Ratoath All Ireland 7's

September 24, 2014

An Ghaeltacht - All Ireland Intermediate 7's champions.

It wasn't just in Croke Park that Kerry footballers emerged with the honours at the weekend as the 10 players, representing An Gaeltacht, won the The All Ireland Football 7's for Intermediate clubs which took place on Saturday at Sean Eiffe Park, Ratoath.

23 clubs took part in this competition and aftter a series of round robin games quarter finals it was fitting that the only 2 teams with 100% records contested the final having both beaten opponents from Derry in their respective semi finals. An Gaeltacht beat Watty Grahams while the Glen John Martin club from Down beat Annaclone.

The final itself was a closely fought affair with the little to choose between the teams as the Down men edged ahead at the break leading 4 points to 3. The second half saw the South Down men edge further ahead and with a 4 point lead looked favourites to lift the trophy. The West Kerry men though were unfazed and finished much the stronger in the remaining 5 minutes, getting the next 2 points, and the crucial goal to put then 1-9 to 11 points ahead. They continued to dominate right up until the final whistle eventually running out 3 point winners on a shoreline of 1-12 to 0-12.The "Aidan Conway player of the tournament" award went to Sean Michéal Ó Conchúir.

A big thank you to local clubs Trim,Curragha and Dunshaughlin as well as the other 20 clubs from all 4 provinces who participated .Special thanks also to our sponsors Myclubshop.ie as well as Dessie Brady & Suzuki for funding the jerseys and other clothing gear for all 20 players in the final.
