IFC: Plenty of twists in Group B

August 31, 2014

A win for Trim over Nobber at Sean Newman Park

Group B of the Intermediate football championship provided all the excitement as the results of the midday games came in. Before round 5 Syddan topped followed by St Colmcilles, while Nobber, Ballinlough and Trim all shared three points. Drumbaragh on two propped up the group.

Drumbaragh defeated St Colmcilles to take themselves off the bottom, while at Sean Newman Park Trim had four points to spare over Nobber. All eyes were on the Ballinlough versus Syddan game at Carlanstown. The game was held up due to an injury, and a little like the last day of the Premiership, Trim were waiting nervously for a result. With time almost up Ballinlough led by eight 1-17 to 2-6 which would have left themselves and Trim level on score difference. But Tom Shines charges kicked a late point and qualify for the preliminary quarter final by the bare minimum.

Nobber now face the dreaded relegation battle.

Simonstown defeated Drumconrath in the junior quarter final while St Vincents caused a bit of a surprise by beaten favourites St Marys in the Junior B quarter final at Stamullen.
