It proved to be third time lucky for Na Fianna against Ratoath in Dunshaughlin on Saturday last. Having lost to the same opposition in both the Spring league group stage and in the championship final earlier this year the Baconstown, Enfield and Rathmoylan parish team finally got their hands on some silverware with a comprehensive win over a gallant Ratoath team in front of a large crowd on a sunny evening on a well prepared carpet like Dunshaughlin main pitch.

The first half was a close affair with captain Vincent Ward opening the scoring for Na Fianna, 2 points apiece from Shane Walsh and Kean Flynn and a well taken goal from Luke Kelly made up the rest of their first half tally. Ratoath also had their moments during the first period and scored 1-2 of their own to leave the half time score Na Fianna 1-5 Ratoath 1-2. A penalty miss from Shane Walsh and a superb save from Cian Heffernan were also part of the first half action.

Ratoath started the second half in whirlwind fashion with 1-1 to leave just 2 pts between the sides but this was to be Ratoaths last scores as soon after Shane Walsh set up Ciaran McDonnell for a Na Fianna goal and this was followed by 2 more green flags by Luke Kelly and McDonnell again to put daylight between the teams. Walsh and Kean Flynn scored all the second half points for the south Meath outfit who ran out deserving winners on a final score of Na Fianna 4-12 Ratoath 2-3.

While all members of the Na Fianna panel contributed to this great win, special mention must go to goalkeeper Cian Heffernan who made 2 great saves one in each half, Kevin Coffey who was a colossus at full back as a replacement for the injured Oisin McCloskey, captain Vincent Ward, Shane Walsh ,Kean Flynn and double goal scorers Luke Kelly and Ciaran McDonnell.

After the game Meath County Boards Mairead Delaney presented the trophy to Vincent Ward, Captain of the victorious Na Fianna team.
