Bective claimed their first Tailteann Cup final success with a six point win over St Brigids under lights at Pairc Tailteann.

The winners were always in control. With 15 minutes gone on the clock Davy Cahill's charges had raced in to a five point lead. The impressive Cathal McConnell opened the scoring with a pointed free. Team captain Brian Cantwell followed suit. Then half back Paul McCabe fired over three frees in a row and Bective were in cruise control.

St Brigids had to wait till the 15th minute for their opening score when Fergal Hennessy pointed. McCabe with another free replied for Bective. Brigids were back in the game on the 20th minute when Killian Kiernan got in for a goal. Hennessy followed up with a point and the Bective lead was down to a point 0-6 to 1-2.

Bective responded in style. Full foward Marty Mulhall landed two fine points and McCabe got his 5th of the half. Oisin Kiernan closed out the scoring and Bective went in at the break 0-9 to 1-3 in front.

Scores were at a premium in the second half. Hennessy narrowed the gap with a fine point. Cathal McConnell responded for Bective. With twenty minutes gone the winners still had that three point advatage. That was extended to six when McConnell was on hand to finish to the Brigids net. Mulhall  got the final score of the match as Bective went on to win with ease.

Best for the winners were Jack Grant, Ben Malone and McCabe in defence, Sean Moran and Ciaran McConnell totally dominated around the middle area while up front Paul Lyness, Brian Cantwell, Marty Mulhall and Cathal McConnell had fine games.

St Brigids were best served by keeper Darragh Geraghty, Brian Briody, Karl Kiernan, Killian Kiernan and Fergal Hennessy.
