Ladies: goals crucial for Na Fianna

July 21, 2014

The Na Fianna senior ladies football squad.
Na Fianna 3-5
Oldcastle 1-10

Na Fianna faced Oldcastle on home turf on Saturday in the third round of the Senior Football Championship.

It was a battle from the throw in, with wet weather conditions causing havoc for both teams. A huge team effort brought the Na Fianna girls over the finish line with only 1 point to spare. The Oldcastle side kept the Na Fianna defence on its toes especially in the final few moment which seen a flurry of Oldcastle possession. Outstanding defending by Claire Coffey and Emma Coffey kept Oldcastle away from more possible scores, both girls played County Camogie against Kilkenny earlier the same day in Rathmoylon.

Mid-field played well alongside Katie Queeney who won a lot of possession in the middle of the field. Andrea Colgan, Deirdre Flynn and Meabh Downey all put points on the score board. Maire Kirby and Ashling Ennis had a goal a piece by half time. Aileen Flynn and Deirdre Moroney were introduced in the second half to make impact on the half-back / mid-field area. A final goalby Maire Kirby sealed the deal for Na Fianna.

Na Fianna will next face Boardsmill (away) in round four.
