Ladies IFC: Regan steers St Michaels to victory.

July 18, 2014

Aisleen Regan St Michaels
St. Michaels 3-9, Summerhill 1-11.

Aisleen Regan made her return from injury a fruitful one as she recorded a personal tally of 1-3 to help steer St. Michaels past Summerhill for a deserving victory in this intermediate football match played in Carlanstown on Thursday evening.

Scores were hard to come by in the opening 20 minutes as both sides struggled in front of the posts, two converted frees from Sinéad McCormack and a Marion Farrelly point from play put the home side into a 0-3 to 0-2 lead by the end of the first quarter. 4 minutes later St. Michaels were awarded a penalty which Megan O'Brien coolly converted, however Summerhill added 3 unanswered points to put just one point between the sides but a point apiece from Sinéad McCormack and Aisleen Regan left the home side with a three point cushion going in at the interval 1-5 to 0-5.

In an exciting second half of good honest football which ebbed and flowed between the two teams Summerhill were first out of the blocks with a 10 minute spell of dominance which saw Jenny Rispin fire home 1-2 and team mate Niamh Crowe 0-1 to put their side 1-8 to 1-5 in front, but back came St. Michaels and 1-2 on the trot from Aisleen Regan left the score at 2-7 to 1-8 with 45 minutes gone on the clock. The next 7 minutes all belonged to Summerhill as Jenny Rispin, Niamh Crowe and Kate Flynn sent a point apiece over to go one point ahead but St. Michaels refused to lie down and a converted free from Sinéad McCormack left the sides level on 55 minutes and in a tense and exciting last 6 minutes St. Michaels were awarded their second penalty of the match when Megan O'Brien was hauled down en-route for goal on the hour mark and Marion Farrelly duly converted and a further point from Farrelly in injury time sealed the victory.
