There are just two nominations for the vacant Mayo football manager's post.

The deadline closed last night at 11pm and the county board confirmed today that James Horan's successor will either be Kevin McStay or the joint management team of Noel Connelly and Pat Holmes. The county board executive will meet this evening to decide on the next stage in the appointment process.

RTE pundit McStay's biggest achievement in management came last year when he guided St. Brigid's of Roscommon to an All-Ireland club title, while Connelly and Holmes teamed up to led Mayo to All-Ireland U21 success in 2006. Current Castlebar Mitchels boss Holmes previously held the senior job from 2000 to 2002, winning an Allianz League title in 2001.

McStay is expected to have Liam McHale - who he worked with at St. Brigid's - as his assistant if his application is successful.
