Burns backs Gaelic Grounds call

Jarlath Burns

Former Ulster winning Armagh captain Jarlath Burns supports the GAA's decision to fix the All-Ireland SFC semi-final replay between Kerry and Mayo for the Gaelic Grounds.

Burns - who was a member of the GAA's management committee up until this year - goes a step forward and suggests fixing high profile replay for provincial grounds should be made established policy.

"I would like to see it become established policy. I think it's right that, outside of All-Ireland finals, all replays should be taken out of Croke Park to give other venues an opportunity," Burns is quoted as saying in today's Irish Independent.

"I don't like the idea of so many games being played at a half-full Croke Park. I think the atmosphere of a packed provincial ground should be tapped into more.

"Irrespective of whether there is American football on or not, a game like this should be taken down the country to a suitable location."
