Underage Games:

Our under 8's were in Darver last Saturday for an exhibition game at half time in the Lory Meagher Cup match between Louth and Sligo. The boys and girls showed great effort and skill in their display with many remarking afterwards it was better than the senior game.

On Wednesday night all roads lead back to Darver as our under 12's competed in the Louth Coaching and Games blitz. With an under 8 football blitz on at the same time there were over 400 kids in attendance on a great night for underage GAA in the county.

The hurling blitz consisted of 4 teams, St.Feichins, St Kevins , Naomh Moninne and ourselves,. The first round we played against St. Feichins, in an excellent game there was great play from both teams with some wonderfully taken scores throughout the pick of the bunch coming from Tiarnan Myles who blasted to the top corner after great work from Ronan Reid and Aidan O'Brien further out the field.

After the first game the kids were taken to a quick skill instruction session delivered by current Louth manager Dee McCarthy and our very own senior county players Gerard Smyth and Gary O Brien. The boss were put through their paces on the importance of the basics and doing the simply things well and a few of the lads caught the eye of the county manager during the evening.

Our second game was the town derby against Naomh Moninne and it was a classic encounter with no quarter given with Fionnan McGurk scoring a great point off a solo run only for the referee to call it back to inform him there was no soloing allowed. Moninnes free taker was on top form slotting over a free nice frees before Aidan O Brien answered with a free of his own which he smashed to the net from 30 yards (even though he was told to knock it over the bar).  Good work from the Reid brother Ronan and Seamus lead to several scores for the forward line of Ryan Boland and Tiarnan Myles who were causing havoc all night. In true Ryan fashion he even argued with the referee for giving a score for Ryan.

The final game was against St Kevins and the Louth manager had a close up view of the boys in action as he reffed the game.  He was no Kevin Brady but he did a good job and the boys turned around a 2 goal deficit at half time to end up the victors, again Ryan and Tiarnan got great scores and Aidan was everywhere but a special mention must go to Nathan Browne who not only got his first score for the club but it was a great strike off his so called weaker side that put the boys in front and they never looked back.

Well done to all involved in the evening and a special thanks to Tonys Pizzeria for the sponsorship of the new kit that had the boys the best looking team there on the night were 40 clubs from Louth were represented.
