O'Raghallaighs' Club Notes

August 25, 2014

Senior Championship play off against Kilkerly this Sunday at 12.30pm in Dunleer. All support welcome, this is a very important game for the team, we will be out to win and remain in the Senior Championship for many years to come. Best of luck lads give it your all.

O'Raghallaighs ladies went out of this years championship last week but not without a fight. Playing with a strong wind and rain the conditions didn't dampen the ladies performance. This young team has come along way since the start of the season and nerves played a part at the start of the match with some wides and shots going short into the Brides goal keeper's hands. This allowed the Brides to build up a lead of 1-2 until debutant Ashling Brady settled nerves with a point which was followed up by 2 points from frees from Emily Hyland. The brides were always dangerous on the counter attack and bar great defending from Maura Rogan Jade McElroy and especially goalkeeper Anna Rooney the score could have been different. Charlene Murray got the final point of the half with a nice point from play. HT Brides 1-4 O'Raghallaighs 0-4. Against the wind the ladies struggled to get the ball out of their own half in the second half, but these ladies really stuck at it and in fact finished quite strongly with Emily Hyland and Charlene Murray getting a goal each. This was a great team effort from all the team, well done ladies for showing some great improvement since the start of the season.

Team: Anna Rooney, Siobhan Mc Cluskey, Maura Rogan, Jade McElroy, Amy Kinsella, Sinead Killen, Margaret Mullarkey, Sarah Kieran, Katie Moore, Amy Hyland, Ashling Brady, Charlene Murray, Sarah Callan., Sarah McGuinness, Emily Hyland. Subs:  Doireann Dullaghan & Evie Martin.

Best of luck to our ladies U16 team who play the Dreadnotts in the Championship at home on Wednesday evening at 7pm. All support welcome.

Our U14 squad played St. Oliver Plunkett last week in the Championship. The Plunketts winning point in the third minute of injury time deprived the Raghallaighs lads of a draw in a hard fought contest, this was the only occasion that the Plunketts had led in the match. A game of skill, determination and hard work from both teams was on display under the whistle of Stephen Johnstone. A halftime scoreline of 3-7 to 0-4 did not tell the story of the Raghallaighs dominance in the first half, on five occasions we were blown up for over carrying the ball when a tap over the bar was an easier option, definitely a learning curve for the future. The Plunketts were never going to go out of the championship on their home pitch without a battle and they would certainly have a period of the game when they would dominate. Any additional time was at the referee's discretion and a draw would have been a fair result for both teams. Yet with seconds remaining, the plunketts scored a point resulting in heartache for our boys. We are very proud of all our lads and their performance as a team, their attitude, hard work and improved skill levels are fantastic. Congratulations to our neighbours the Plunketts and good luck in the remainder of the championship. FT O'Raghallaighs 5-9 Plunketts 5-10.
