Pearce Hanley celebrates for Brisbane Lions

Pearce Hanley was on the winning side against fellow Irishman Zach Tuohy as the Brisbane Lions shocked Carlton in the AFL over the weekend.

Mayo's Hanley was to the fore at midfield as the Lions prevailed by 99-95 at the Gabba. He collected 13 disposals (seven kicks and six handballs) and four marks as Brisbane eased their wooden spoon worries with only their third win of the season. Hanley also notched up a first half goal.

Former Laois underage star Tuohy, who is set to sign a new contract with 15th-placed Carlton, was named as one of the Blues' best-on-ground players for his 24 disposals (12 kicks and 12 handballs) and four marks.

Meanwhile, Tyrone's Conor McKenna had 22 disposals for bottom side Essendon in their surprise win over the Gold Coast Suns.
