Clare native Mick Lillis was last night ratified as the new Laois senior football manager.

The Portlaoise clubman has been handed a three-year term to succeed Tomás Ó Flatharta, who stepped down following the All-Ireland qualifier defeat to Antrim last summer.

During the course of his own playing career, Lillis lined out for both the Banner County and Laois, winning an All-Ireland senior club title with Portlaoise in 1983.

As a manager, he took charge of the O'Moore County minor footballers this year and has also managed Portlaoise to six Laois SFC titles as well as winning SFCs in Carlow (with Palatine) and Kildare (with St Laurence's).

Also in Laois, senior hurling manager Seamus 'Cheddar' Plunkett and his backroom team have been reappointed.
