Carroll honoured to play part

February 18, 2015

Having recently stepped down after 40 years of service to the Laois GAA, Mick Carroll admits that it was an honour to be involved.

The former Laois hurling star has held many positions on the county board and he revealed to the Leinster Express that there were plenty of highlights from his time.

"It was a great honour to represent the Laois county board at so many levels," said Carroll. "I suppose I probably got that interest from my father, who served as secretary of the Derrykearn GAA club in the late 1920s.

"There were plenty of highlights over the years. From a play perspective, there were some amazing moments including Laois' National football league win over Monaghan in 1986.

"In fact that 1990s and 2000s have provided all Laois supporters with such cherished memories. Who will ever forget the feeling when the county ended a 57-year wait for a Leinster senior football title in 2003 and of course the minors success was a great fillip for everyone involved in the sport in the county."
