'When you have 26 championships won, come back and talk to me'

October 02, 2015

Kilkenny legend and Bray Emmets manager John Henderson admits that the tradition is with Carnew Emmets ahead of Sunday's Wicklow SHC final.

Bray are the defending champions, but they are still underdogs going into Sunday's decider as Carnew have been the kingpins in the county for many, many years.

Henderson states in the Wicklow People that Carnew have the pedigree and he recalls a debate with a Carnew man a while back, which he admits he was left speechless by.

"Tradition and background," stressed Henderson when asked what sets Carnew apart from the rest. "I remember a Carnew man telling me one day, "When you have 26 championships won come back and talk to me". I took it on the chin. There's always a bit of banter. But, to me, it summed them up. They have proven that they are the kingpins of hurling in Wicklow. We are facing a ferocious challenge."
