Joe Canning is growing weary of people talking about Galway's run to the All-Ireland hurling final three years ago.

The Tribesmen routed Kilkenny in the Leinster final, only for the Cats to come back and beat them after a replay in the MacCarthy Cup decider.

"People talk about 2012, we had one good half in the Leinster final. A mediocre game I suppose in the semi-final and one good half in the first All-Ireland. I'm kind of sick of people talking about a great year in 2012. We didn't win the All-Ireland. We got to an All-Ireland final," Canning said after yesterday's quarter-final win over Cork.

Canning, who had a rare off-day, admits he and his team-mates have plenty to work on ahead of the All-Ireland semi-final against Tipperary on August 16.

"We've had some good results this year. We've been plodding along nicely," he continued.

"We made a lot of mistakes in the Leinster final, a lot of handling errors and stuff like that ourselves. We needed to rectify that, but 22 wides today isn't good enough either.

"There's an awful lot to work on. Like I had six or seven probably (eight, in fact), I don't know what it was, it could be ten nearly, so there's stuff for everybody individually and collectively to work on."
