Ryan: we weren't clinical enough

TJ Ryan says Limerick will need to make better use of their scoring opportunities if they're to beat Cork in next Saturday night's Waterford Crystal Cup final at Mallow.

The Treatymen edged out UCC by 0-22 to 1-17 on Saturday, but Ryan wasn't entirely pleased after seeing his side rack up 16 wides.

"We had a three-point lead, twice, and I felt we had chances to go four and five up and that's what you have to do to make life more difficult for the opposition and we didn't do that today," the Limerick manager told the Limerick Leader.

"We had a couple of goal chances and we were saying at half-time that at this level goals win matches and we found that out last year."

He added: "The most positive thing is the result - we ground it out. We didn't play overly well and missed a few chances of goals, which would have sealed the deal for us but look it was a good game to get.

"They were star-studded and we knew it wasn't going to be easy - we went three points up in the first half and three points up in the second and would have been looked to kick-on but in fairness they came back at us with a couple of scores and then got the goal but our fellas finished it out well."
