NHL 4: Monaghan move clear at the top
March 14, 2010
Monaghan 2-13
Longford 1-12
Monaghan moved two points clear at the top of the Division Four table when they saw off nearest rivals Longford yesterday at Inniskeen.
The visitors stated their intent in this game when a good start saw them towards a 1-7 to 0-6 lead at half-time, with their goal coming from Garret Ghee after 28 minutes.
Frank Brady's team upped their performance in the second-half though and forced in a goal when Brian McGuigan had possession robbed by the Longford goalkeeper, who was them adjudged to cross his own line and a Monaghan goal was awarded.
Michael McHugh levelled the sides soon afterwards from a free and the game would be squared four more time in the following 25 minutes as neither team were willing to give into the other.
Monaghan did eventually break the deadlock to move three points clear, with McHugh to the forefront, and when Michael Lennon found the net late on the issue was finally settled.
